The reactions I’ve seen to this story tend to either love it or hate it; me, I think I love it… Are we in the hands of gods who are capricious, impossible to understand, and quick to cast away their creations? Are we not superior to other species because of being just as susceptible to fate as they?

  2. Cool story.
    It reminds me a LOT, in tone and in theme, of "The Fifth Season" – an uncaring universe bringing occasional waves of utter destruction; the cycles of violence between those who can’t possibly coexist; the way callousness and cruelty develop when everything is reduced to bare survival.
